HEIST is a collaborative arts organization looking for an individual who is interested in learning about live art events and gaining production management skills. This production mentorship will have the individual working alongside HEIST’s managing director to assist in the production preparation tasks for our upcoming work, Frequencies. The main responsibility of this position will focus on detailed note-taking within a rehearsal period. Outside of this, other preparatory tasks will need assistance including organizing and communicating detailed schedules, rehearsal space preparation and more. This individual will receive mentorship from Sylvia Bell around the mentioned specific tasks along with one on one mentorship from Artistic Director Richie Wilcox covering topics of interest decided upon with the successful candidate.

In an effort to foster the development of brand new or emerging arts workers from marginalized communities Heist is only looking for interested candidates who self-identify as a visible minority, a new immigrant, and/or Indigenous. Applications from qualified individuals from the IBPOC community of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, and abilities are welcome as HEIST seeks to continue to diversify and strengthen its organization and the community as a whole.

This mentorship is a full-time position running just over three weeks starting January 28th. The main workplace will be The Bus Stop Theatre located at 2203 Gottingen Street. Note: Proper regulations and practices regarding Covid-19 will be followed in order to ensure the health and safety of the entire team. Adjustments to these practices will be made if necessitated by fluctuating guidelines and scenarios within this pandemic.

Interested candidates do not need to have any experience within the entertainment industry, stage management or production management realm. Successful candidates will possess a fine attention to detail, demonstrate strong organizational skills and show a desire to work within the arts.

HEIST believes cohesion is extremely important in producing engaging events and that the key to success is open communication and discussion. The applicant will be included in creative and administrative communication through Google Docs and Slack as well as be invited into Heist’s weekly full company meetings. The selected applicant will have a voice at the table each week to speak and share ideas without fear of ridicule or judgement. We prioritize getting it right over being right, and pride ourselves in building open, engaging, safe and enjoyable teams.
